Alitia started singing at 17, performing occasionally at various night clubs and bars around Perth WA. She originally set out to pursue a solo career, however, she fell in love with the music of ShadowPlay after turning up for an audition in November 2002.
"So diverse is my range in music, it makes it almost impossible to list 'favourite' albums and significant influences. Music for me is like a path I take to escape the monotony of day to day activities. Depending on what mood I may be in on one day will determine what album I choose to play. For example, when everything gets a little too much and I need to relax I will play soft melodic music, something that can help me drift into a state of nothingness. When I feel like having a good time I'll put on something I can dance to, when I need to feel inspired I will listen to songs with lyrics that I can relate to and when I am pissed off and need to release anger I will listen to something a lot heavier. I think listening to music can nurture the emotions that build within and actually creating music allows one to express those emotions."
